The Tooth Hurts

Recently I have had a tooth ache and when I called to make an appointment, of course they were booked for at least two weeks. My fault, I shouldn’t have waited so long. This tooth that’s causing my pain broke several months ago, but I didn’t do anything about it. Why? Because it was not hurting, it wasn’t affecting me…yet.

So I’m laying in bed with an ice pack on my face and praying to God that he will relieve the pain…You know those prayers? When you’re making all sorts of promises. “God, I will donate to the church! I will not get mad at my husband for forgetting the trash! I will never sin again, God! If you will make the pain stop!” I’m sure God was really LOL-ing at me! Now, I’m the kind of person that looks for an object lesson in everything…even if it’s a stretch! How many times have we let our sin be that broken tooth? We know we need to take care of it before it causes problems but as long as it’s not hurting anything then we can just keep it on the back burner and deal with it later.

But guess what? If it’s left untreated for long enough, we no longer have control of it. Just like my tooth, I had months that I could have made an appointment on my own time, but I didn’t. Now it’s painful and I’m at the mercy of when the dentist can get to me. We know better than to allow sin into our lives. Even if it’s just a certain tv show that we feel convicted for watching. We are all convicted of different things. Take action while you are still in control, don’t wait until the sin has control of you, because it will be painful!

John 13:10 says,

“Jesus said to him, “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean”

John 13:10 NKJV

Jesus was washing His disciples feet and Peter said wash my head and hands too! Jesus was trying to show them if they are a part of the kingdom of God then they are already clean and they just need to wash off the daily dirt. If we wash off the daily dirt, or examine our life’s and purge ourselves of anything that might be allowing sin a way in, then we will remain clean. Don’t give sin enough time to become like an infected tooth that will cause you pain when you aren’t expecting it. And if you’ve waited too long, don’t worry—Jesus doesn’t have a two week waiting period, if you call on Him, He can relieve you right where you’re at!
