When Are You Due?

When are you due? As a mama of three I have been asked this many times over the years. Much to my despair I have been asked it many times when I was definitely not due with anything! When we are in the season of motherhood and have little ones, or maybe you are passed that season and are enjoying the birth of new grandchildren, “when are you due?” is so significant. We count down the days until our due date, and when someone asks, we are happy to talk about this new life we are expecting.

Galatians chapter 6 verse 9 says “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap, if we do not lose heart.” Many relate due season to gardening and harvest, but I love to look at due season like expecting a child. Do you ever feel like you are waiting on something from God and He is just not sending it? I have felt that way too. Then I look at this verse and it says in due season you shall reap, that is a promise from God’s word. Just like when a life is growing inside of you-it is inevitable that it must come out one day, and we do not know when that day will come. What we do know is how to prepare for its arrival. No mother, when she finds out she is expecting wants her baby to be born that day. She wants her baby to stay inside until the right time, until the due date. We think about names, we buy clothes, and diapers, and if we are first time moms we buy all the things they will never use-like a crib, and all the gizmos instagram tells us we need. So what if we prepared our hearts for what God has for us the same way we prepare for our babies? He did say in due season we shall reap. We pray and ask for what we want, but are we prepared to receive it? While we are in the waiting season, (And we all know the waiting season can be brutal. Think swollen ankles, and the urge to pee every five minutes), there are actions we can take to ready ourselves for what God wants to give us. The end of verse 9 says “If we do not lose heart.” I interpret that to mean we should have the same faith on day 365 as we did on day one when we first asked. If you have been praying and waiting on your miracle or blessing for years, have faith because if it is within you, it must come out. Do not give up hope, see that blessing birthed and held in your hands and the fullness of its joy.

The most painful part of pregnancy is during delivery. If you are experiencing birth pains, rejoice because your due date is near! Continuing on to Galatians verse 10 it reads “Therefore as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” So many times we wait on a sign from God before we step out to do good. Here is your sign: THE BIBLE SAYS TO DO IT. As we have opportunity, that means we don’t have to hear from God before we bring food to a neighbor, or write someone a thinking of you card. We should not give so that we can receive, but just before Paul said “in due season you shall reap” he wrote “He who sows to the Spirit will reap of the Spirit.” Sow good seeds. Be a blessing while you are waiting on your own blessing. Thankfully God is not on a timeline and He can supply our need right when we ask, but if you have been asking and wondering where God is in all of it, start preparing because you are pregnant with the Holy Spirit and it is about due season!

If you read this and feel like you do not know where to even start asking for what you need from God, I recommend finding the song "I Speak Jesus" by Charity Gayle, whether you be in your car or in your living room, play this song on repeat and claim the words for your life. Make it your prayer. Meditate on the name of Jesus. Maybe make a list of what you want to see come to fruition, believe that you will receive it. If you are praying for a family member to come to Jesus, when the lyrics say "Jesus for my family" say the name of that person! And don't give up until you see your due season!
